What it is

Everest · The Ascent is a digital project by Suraj Viregaonkar that recreates the climbing route of Mount Everest. It provides a real-time 3D experience for desktop users and a text-based ledger for mobile users, documenting the journey from Lukla to the summit.

Structure & content

The content is organized into stages such as Namche Bazaar, The blessing, and The tent city. Each stage displays environmental data including altitude, oxygen levels, and temperature, alongside historical field data and safety information regarding altitude sickness.

Why study it

The site integrates a 3D terrain viewer with a dashboard that monitors expedition metrics like trail distance and oxygen percentage. It uses a stage-based narrative to present historical facts, such as the 2014 serac collapse and the founding of the Himalayan Trust, within their geographical context.
